Novartis was created in 1996 through a merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz. Novartis and its predecessor companies trace roots back more than 250 years, with a rich history of developing innovative products. More than 1 billion patients worldwide use our medicines and we are always looking for new ways to expand patients' access to the latest treatments.
The company's global headquarters is located in Basel, Switzerland. We employ more than 109,000 people worldwide of more than 140 nationalities. Novartis has been operating in the Czech Republic since 1997. It is divided into two divisions.
This division consists of two business units - Pharmaceuticals and Oncology. Their task is to bring innovative, patented medicines to the market.
Sandoz, a division of Novartis Group, is a global leader in the field of generic medicines and biosimilars, and focuses on finding new ways to help people around the world gain access to high-quality, safe and effective medicines. You can find a separate presentation of the Sandoz division here.
There is also one of the five Novartis Business Services shared services centers in Prague. It employs over 1,500 people. The environment is very international and our employees are of more than 55 nationalities. The center provides services to Novartis offices around the world, primarily in the areas of clinical trial management, IT, human resources, or facility management.
The history of the company can be traced back to the middle of the 19th century, when the three companies that would go on to form Novartis (Ciba, Geigy and Sandoz) were established. Novartis was formed in 1996 when Sandoz joined with the already merged Ciba-Geigy.
