Joint the Novartis Neurological Hackathon, October 25-27, 2019
Help us to find new treatment options and support options for patients with multiple sclerosis. Hackathon is a focused 24 hours marathon of nonstop hacking during a weekend event where you and a small team get to build something new and exciting, alongside like-minded people.
Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disease affecting ability of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to communicate with each other. When suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, the patient slowly loses control of his body, ending in a wheelchair and depending of help of caregivers. The disease affects mostly young adults (20 to 40 years old) & women 2-3 times more often than men. There are 2 to 150 patients per 100 000 inhabitants worldwide. Estimates refer to 15 to 18 thousands patients only in the Czech Republic.
Challenges that will be addressed during the Hackathon:
1. Personal motivator
Help patients to cope with multiple sclerosis by motivating them to do physical and mental exercises regularly, recommending a healthy diet, and reminding them to find life balance.
2. Stress detector
Develop a solution to detect and communicate the stress level and tiredness so that other people can understand the mood of the patients.
3. Home rehabilitation devices
Come up with devices that can rehabilitate or stimulate human body parts (e.g. neck) in domestic conditions.
4. Measurements needed for diagnosis
Create a device or software to measure/monitor various contributing factors that can affect the conditions of the patients and use them to predict the level of progression or possibility of relapses. These factors include vitamin intake, pulse rates, weather condition, plumb exposure, performance tests such as the Time 25-Foot Walk.
